The Team Rector Writes…

I should like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to people in Castle Camps, Shudy Camps and Horseheath, as the new Team Rector of Linton. I have overall responsibility for your parishes, as well as for, Linton and Bartlow.

However, as you can guess, I’m relieved to have colleagues, both lay and clergy, who are also active in church ministry in all these parishes – otherwise I should be spread very thin! I intend to get to know all the villages as much as I can and to take services in them sometimes. I should also like the church congregations to have a real sense of being in a wider team where we know about and care for each other.

As part of this I am inviting anyone who would like to, to join me in two walks between the churches. The first, on Sunday 6th September would be from Castle Camps to Bartlow, via Shudy Camps, starting at 2pm. I hope that on the way, people will tell me (and each other) what is so special to them about their parishes and churches, and that we’ll be able to stop and pray in each church, and maybe have some refreshments along the way. Non-walkers can help by welcoming us to the churches, and perhaps offering lifts at the end from Bartlow to Castle Camps, so that walkers can retrieve their cars. Or some people might like to walk just a short distance out from their own church to meet the main party. People who love their parish churches, but perhaps aren’t regular attenders, are very welcome to join in, and children and dogs of course!

The second walk would be nearly a month later, October 3rd or 4th (tbd), from Linton to Horseheath along the Roman Road. People from south of the A1307 would be very welcome to join in that one, too. The routes and expected timings will appear on your church notice boards soon.

The Tea Quiz held on Sunday 5th July was a great success. This year we joined forces with the Castle Camps Playground Group, it was good to work together and the help and support particularly with taking the marquee down and washing up was much appreciated. Many thanks to all who contributed with cakes, time and participation and to David Neal our quiz master. Also many thanks as always to Pam and Guy for their hospitality. In total we raised £366.

The church yard is looking very well kept at the moment many thanks to all those who are working to keep it so smart. You know who you are.  LK

Romanian Christmas Boxes

Colleen and Derek Lockstone from St Mary's, Linton are planning to send  boxes of Christmas presents for children and old people  to Romania in time for Christmas again this year.

They write, "We would be very grateful for contributions from the three churches  as we have received in previous years. As we have to take the boxes to the  London depot prior to the long lorry journey to Romania, boxes will need to be collected towards the end of October."

Most of the children are severely disabled, abandoned by their parents and have minimal support from the authorities so a box from you will be the only Christmas present they will receive. An actual date for a service when the boxes will be blessed will be arranged later. If there are any queries please phone Colleen or Derek at 01223 891931.
