News from the Anglican churches of Castle Camps, Shudy Camps and Horseheath

May 2015

Good news, after a very long day on the 4th of March and with some excellent candidates seen by the interview panel, Rev. Canon Maggie Guite will become Team Rector of Linton. She comes from St. Mark's in Newnham and will be licensed in early July.  She will be in place sometime in August.  We look forward to her arrival and working with her in Christ.

This means that we can very soon start the process of looking for a vicar for our parishes of Shudy Camps, Castle Camps and Horseheath. This vicar we expect to be a house for duty (as was Graham Ridgwell) and to have the vicarage again occupied as a vicarage. So, exciting times!

The last couple of months, I cannot deny, have been challenging times and your church wardens have been working hard to maintain a pattern of church services. This would not have been possible without the support from existing and retired clergy for which we are very grateful.

Our Easter services were a time for reflection and joy. Despite the interregnum, we were able to offer a vigil on Thursday night (here the congregation were 12 which gave me pause for thought), a Good Friday service and a very well supported service on Easter Sunday. It was wonderful to see you all.

The26th of April saw us led in worship at All Saints' Castle Camps by The Rev. Robin Isherwood who comes from Charterhouse. Charterhouse has been a patron to All Saints' Castle Camps and Horseheath since 1611. It really does make one realise how we are surrounded by history and how small we are in the scheme of things. It was wonderful to have Robin take the time to journey from London to maintain our association.

On a different note I have just been to see “Cinderella” with my granddaughter and the ethos of "Be courageous and kind" is not a bad way to greet each day. Let's continue to be courageous and kind to each other . . .

Saturday 9th May - Plant Sale to be held in the Castle Camps Village Hall. This is always a popular event and a good opportunity to get some excellent bedding plants.

Sunday 21st June - Open Gardens. Let's hope this will be as successful as previous years. If you feel you could to open your gardens, please contact David Holmes on 584430.

Tea Quiz

We are planning another of our very popular tea quizzes. The date is to be finalised, but will probably be August.  It will be held in the Schoolings' garden and is always a good fun afternoon.

Draw Club

The Draw Club is a very good way of supporting the church. You make a monthly donation: Half of the amount goes to the church and half is awarded as prizes. If you are new to the village and would like to join please contact David Holmes 584430 or Lindi Kent 584012.

Coffee and Cake Morning - Held on Saturday 18th April

We made £200 towards the upkeep of our church so thank you to everyone who baked, bought and helped. A lady from Linton won the delicious coffee and walnut cake which managed to raise £50. It was a lovely morning and so nice to see people catching up. We hope to make it a regular event every two months so please look out for the next one.

Thank you to all who supported “Casa Margarita”. £324 was raised for the upkeep of our church.

Our next event is the Garden Party on Saturday 16th May to be held in the grounds of Hartford House 14.00 to 16.00.  Donations to the various stalls: bric-a-brac, raffle, books cakes and plant stall are most welcome. With the exception of the cakes, which can be brought to the venue on the day, items can be left in the church porch on Friday 15th May. The popular duo from last year will be returning to entertain us with their music. Do come along and support.

Tea & Chat – Wednesday 13th May from 14.30 to 16.00 in church.

Sunday Club - May 3rd in Church 10:00 – all children welcome.
