News & Events

People worship funny things.  There’s a Bible passage where Isaiah is criticising people who manufacture idols for others to worship.  They take a bit of wood, he says, and cut it in half.  One half they chop up for firewood  and cook their dinner over it.  The other half they carve into a shape and they call it a god – and then they bow down and pray to it to save them!  They just don’t understand.  What they need is the sense to be able to say: “It’s only wood!”

Some people still worship silly things.  If only they were able to say, “It’s only money!” or, “It’s only a car… or a football team... or a “Celebrity”.

If we worship something it has to be worth it.  That’s what “worship” really means: to give something its full value.  What we worship has to be worthy of our total trust: solid, reliable, unchanging, the root of our life.  Cars and football teams and celebrities will fail us.  Even money fails us in the end: we can’t take it with us when we go.

False idols of wood or stone or flesh and blood will let us down: only God is always with us and He will never let us down.

God is the only one who is really worthy of worship.  May you feel His presence with you, now and evermore.

All blessings,

Open Gardens

Just a personal note of thanks to all the people who opened their gardens and to all organisers and helpers.  I realise how much work it takes, but the result was a wonderful day.  It makes me proud to live in such a lovely area!

Back by popular demand!  On Sunday 13th of July, a Tea Quiz in the Schooling’s garden at The Old Inn, Park Lane.  Come along as a team of 6 or make up a team when you arrive.  As many sandwiches & cake as you can eat!  £5.00 per person, children under 12 free.  Entertainment for small children.  A great opportunity  to meet other people from The Camps and surrounding villages as well as exercising the old brain box in a lovely garden setting!

Planning for the Flower Festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend, 23rd, 24th & 25th August is well under way and should be a wonderful event in the newly repaired and decorated Nave.  If you are creating a flower arrangement the church will be open to decide positions on Thursday 31st of July from 5.30 onwards.  Please let Lindi Kent know if you cannot attend but know which position you would prefer.  If you would like to create an arrangement we have plenty of space.  Please contact Lindi  Kent on 01799 584012.

We are also planning an Evening Concert on August Saturday 23rd featuring our local professional opera singer Yvonne Howard & friends.  This should be spectacular with the church bedecked with flowers.  Please support this new exciting addition to the Flower Festival programme.  Tickets are £10.00 from Lindi Kent (lindi.allen@pan-global.co.uk) or David Neal.  LK

Please note regarding cheques for All Saints Church:  Lloyds Bank no longer accept cheques made payable to “All Saints’ Church Castle Camps”.  They should be payable to “PCC of Castle Camps”- the name of the actual account.  PS
