The Connection

News from the Anglican churches of Castle Camps, Shudy Camps and Horseheath

February 2015

Christmas has now passed and we are now well into the New Year – and a time  of significant change for all our churches. Graham and Elizabeth Ridgwell have now  left Castle Camps to start their retirement and Sue and Graeme Walker have moved from  Mill Green House after many happy years. We wish them all happiness in their new homes. The departure of Graham  means that there is now neither a Rector in Linton nor a Vicar in the Camps and Horseheath. This means we are now operating within a double interregnum which is an interval between the periods of office of two incumbents in a parish. We are currently advertising for a Team Rector at Linton and after this appointment will be recruiting for a new Vicar  for our villages.

These are challenging and interesting times, but we the Church wardens are committed to provide a Sunday Eucharist at one of the parish churches every Sunday and are grateful for the support we have been getting from Linton. The pattern for the moment will be on the first Sunday of each month  we will join Linton for a service there, the service on the second Sunday will be at Castle Camps, on the third Sunday at Horseheath and on the fourth Sunday at Shudy Camps. All services are at 10. We will be led  at these services by retired and visiting clergy which will enable us to benefit from different styles of ministry for which we are very thankful.

Please give us your continued support and join us whenever you can. An important proportion of the parish share relies upon our collections. Inevitably, fewer services will mean that the income from collections is reduced. As you all know keeping our churches in the fine condition that they are costs many thousands of pounds, but they are our buildings and we all need them at varying stages of our lives. So, whilst this is a time of change it is not a time to be gloomy for change always brings new and interesting opportunities. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our services soon where there is always peace and often good cake and tea and coffee afterwards.

All blessings

All Saints’ Parish Church, Castle Camps

It was wonderful to see the church so full at The Carol Service on the 21st of December. This was an inclusive service of readings, music and carols, the service was non introduced which gave a feeling of calmness and continuity. Thank you to all of you who read, those who sang and played, and to those who decorated the church.

Thank you also to all those who stayed to enjoy the mulled wine and mince pies which was most welcome on a chilly winters morning.  LK

St. Mary’s Parish Church, Shudy Camps

It has been a quiet winter so far in Shudy Camps but this morning when I woke there was a light dusting of snow and everywhere looked beautiful. What a lovely place we live in. The service on Christmas morning at St Mary’s was full to bursting. Sadly it was one of the last to be officiated by Graham Ridgwell, we shall certainly miss his wonderful sermons.

The Front wall at the church has finally been completed and is in the process of drying out. The two sides will now match beautifully and should last for many years.

Coffee and Cake Morning - This will be held in the church on Saturday 21st February 10:00 to12 noon. We will have tea, real coffee and hot chocolate as well as homemade cake and lots of chat. So come and catch up with old friends or meet somebody new. Everyone is most welcome and all proceeds go to the upkeep of the church.  KK

Is supporting Haverhill Town Pastors something you feel you could do? They need Friday evening home prayer members, as well as support at base. Please contact Capt. Andrew Payne (01440 762871) if you are interested.  RF

The Christmas Crib Service was very well supported and £451.34 was raised for the Js Hospice. Mr Smith, on behalf of the Js, wishes me to pass on their thanks to everyone and they really do appreciate your kindness in thinking of them. The Js Hospice is an organization dedicated to making a difference to the lives of significantly disadvantaged young adults who have very complex needs.
