Hands up if you’re old enough to vote and you feel fed up with Christmas already!  Hmmm… I thought so…  Not all of you, but a fair number…

I do understand:  the high expectations and all the commercial pressures and the expense… and then it’ll all be over and it’s the New Year!  Perhaps a good time to take stock of your life.  Life: what’s it about?  Someone said to me: “It’s a journey that begins when you’re born and ends when you die; so what’s the point?” – which is a cheering thought in the depth of Winter!

But perhaps it’s a good time for a change.  Have you ever considered becoming a Christian?  You ask: Would that make any difference to all this?  Well, yes, of course it would. (But you wouldn't expect me to say anything else!) Having a faith changes the nature of your journey.  Instead of a one-way trudge into the darkness, life itself has a purpose: it’s a journey that ends in life, not death.

Christians believe that at the first Christmas God was born as a human baby called Jesus; and he lived a human life, with all its ups and downs.  We believe that with Jesus as our guide on the journey we can travel through life in a different way.

We live and travel as pilgrims with a purpose.  We set our sights on God’s Kingdom of justice and peace, and that gives our pathway through life meaning.  We are journeying home to God, but we are making His world a better place as we travel.

Have a blessed and joyful Christmas, and a meaningful New Year.

All blessings

Remembrance Sunday:  Thanks to Susie Culpin, Sue Coxall and Jane Neal for providing a wonderful spread in the village hall afterwards. A lady’s small purse was found after the service: contact Lindi (01799 584012) if you are the owner.

There will be an in-depth Church Clean on Wednesday, Dec 11 at 10:30am after the service. This would be more fun if  a number of people  worked together. Bring cleaning materials and sandwiches; coffee will be provided.  Let's make the church extra beautiful for our Christmas morning service!  LK
