News from the Anglican churches of Castle Camps, Shudy Camps and Horseheath

April 2015

Sharing the peace is the Christian way of introducing yourself. There are many other types:

What do you do if I say, "Give me five"? You slap my raised hand in congratulations. Who started that? It was West Indians. So it's a West Indian handshake.

Do you know a boxer's handshake? It's both fists clenched punched together.

Do you know a Roman soldier's handshake? Grasp forearms with right hands. It seems a bit tough - but it was to make sure that the other wasn't carrying a knife hidden up their sleeve!

Do you know a businessman's handshake? Of course, it's a firm grasp of right hands.

Do you know a farmer's handshake? Spit on right hand before shaking hands.

Do you know a Christian's handshake? No, it's not just like a businessman's. It's very special. Put your right palm against mine, without holding on. And now we put our left hands at the sides - almost like a hand sandwich! I say, "Peace be with you" and you reply, "And also with you". This is the Christian way of saying, "Pleased to meet you". It's a lovely way to greet someone and to welcome them to church.

We are planning another of our very popular tea quizzes. The date is to be finalised, but will probably be August.  It will be held in the Schoolings' garden and is always a good fun afternoon.

Draw Club

The Draw Club is a very good way of supporting the church. You make a monthly donation: Half of the amount goes to the church and half is awarded as prizes. If you are new to the village and would like to join please contact David Holmes 584430 or Lindi Kent 584012.

Coffee and Cake Morning

This will be held in the church on Saturday 18th April 10:00 to 12 noon. We will have tea, real coffee and hot chocolate as well as homemade cake and lots of chat. The last Coffee and Cake Morning raised £185.00. It is a good opportunity to catch up with old friends, who you are always waving to from the car, or indeed to meet somebody new. Everyone is most welcome and all proceeds go towards the upkeep of our beautiful church. Anyone who would like to make and donate a cake, flapjack, biscuits etc. could leave them at the church on the day or pass them on to Ann Thomson or Kerri Kitchen. Thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity.
